50th Anniversary – Fifty Years of Family

What started with one man and a truck is now celebrating its 50th year in business! McPherson Oil is excited to begin the year-long celebration of its golden anniversary with the theme “50 Years of Family.”

The McPherson Companies was founded by Charles “Mac” McPherson, Sr. in 1971 in Oneonta, Alabama. After working with Shell Oil in Houston, Texas for eight years as a lubrication engineer, Mac returned to his home state and purchased a rural fuel jobber in Oneonta,

Alabama. Based on his experience building distributor businesses with Shell petroleum distributors in Texas, Mac saw the value and flexibility that petroleum distributors provide to the major oil companies as well as the markets that the distributors serve. Regional petroleum distributors have the opportunity to build solid relationships with their customers and provide their customers with a full-service petroleum offering. During the first year of operations, TMC averaged 70,000 gallons of tank wagon fuel deliveries and sold one drum of oil. Today, McPherson Oil averages over 15.6 million gallons of tank wagon fuel and over 295,000 drums of oil annually.

Ken McPherson, the oldest son of Charles McPherson, is now serving as President of TMC. Mac and Chief Executive Officer. Ken shares his father’s passion for providing great products and superior service to TMC’s customers while continuing to maintain a family and caring work culture.

Today McPherson Oil operates in 6 states and delivers to over 10,000 customers in the southeast. McPherson Oil has persevered through the years to become one of the largest independent lubricant distributors in the country with approximately 16 million gallons distributed on an annual basis.

As we celebrate our 50 years in business, Mac’s vision continues to drive the company. McPherson’s commitment to service, quality of product and most importantly the relationship is the driving force of our business.  Those that have worked at McPherson Oil Products over the past 50 years have been the key to our 50 years of success.
