Amazon purchases, batteries, mail, groceries, gasoline, medicine.  None of these items would be at your doorstep without the help of a trucker.

Each year, America celebrates its backbone – the trucker – with a week-long celebration: National Truck Driver Appreciation Week.  Of course, many motorists are not aware of the 3.5 million men and women who drive everything from local delivery vans to big rigs, part of the $726 billion-a-year trucking industry.

NTDAW is a week dedicated to celebrating truck drivers in the U.S. spearheaded by the American Trucking Associations, which will be held Sunday, Sept. 8 through Saturday, Sept. 14. ATA says the week is coordinated each year to show the country’s 3.5 million truck drivers that carriers, shippers and the rest of the industry appreciate the job they do.

Need some more proof? Here are some stats:

·       Some 80% or more of all U.S. communities are totally dependent on truckers bringing them the food and other products they need.

·       The other nearly 20% of U.S. communities are still largely dependent on truckers for food and other products and nearly 100% dependent on professional drivers bringing those products to stores in their neighborhoods.

·       More than seven million people are directly or indirectly employed by the trucking industry, meaning that for every truck driver there’s at least one more person working behind the scenes in this economically critical industry.

·       Nearly 100% of all products brought into our homes or workplaces travel at least part of the way on a truck or van driven by a professional driver. Even products that arrive by ship or air have to be moved to the warehouse, the retail store or to individuals’ homes somehow.

In short, truckers are involved in every aspect of the American family’s life.

Various truck stops and fleet companies are celebrating this week with freebies and showing admiration for their drivers.  McPherson Oil is no different.  This week McPherson Oil launches a week-long celebration of its drivers as well as its employees.  From meals and snacks to gifts and prizes, we want to say thank you to our drivers, dispatchers, and team for all of their hard work and dedication.
